A coordination meeting to follow up on the procedures for opening the Erbil Stock Exchange

His Excellency the Chairman of Iraqi Securities Commission, Mr. Faisal Al-Haimus, headed the accompanying delegation in a coordination meeting with His Excellency the Minister of Finance and Economy of the Kurdistan Region, Mr. Awat Janab Nouri. The meeting was held at the request of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of the Region to follow up on the procedures for opening the Erbil Stock Exchange.

 

During the meeting, it was emphasized that Iraqi Securities Commission had previously granted the formal license for the establishment of the Erbil Stock Exchange, and that the license is complete from a legal and regulatory standpoint. The meeting was dedicated to discussing the executive, administrative, and technical procedures that have been undertaken, as well as the remaining requirements for the actual commencement of the market’s operations.

 

The meeting also reviewed the steps accomplished by the relevant entities and discussed mechanisms for joint institutional coordination to accelerate the completion of the remaining requirements, in a manner that ensures the launch of the market in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and best practices adopted in the regulation of financial markets.

 

His Excellency the Chairman of the Commission affirmed the Iraqi Securities Commission’s commitment to monitoring the implementation of granted licenses, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements, and cooperating with concerned authorities to overcome obstacles, thereby contributing to enhancing the investment environment and supporting financial stability and national economic growth.

 

This meeting comes within the framework of strengthening coordination between the federal government and the Region and supporting efforts aimed at the practical activation of granted licenses, in a way that contributes to the development of the Iraqi capital market.
